Summary

We ask about your experience of cycling in winter, to understand how to make conditions for winter cycling better and safer. We do not ask for your name or contact details. All questions are voluntary. Results are only ever reported for groups, never for individuals. Individual answers are kept for up to 12 months and then deleted or generalised.

What we collect
  • Your answers about cycling in winter
  • Your age range
  • Your gender
  • The municipality you live in

We do not collect your name, email address or other direct identifiers. Even so, a combination of answers (such as a small municipality, an age range and a gender) could in some cases point to a particular person. That is why we treat all answers as personal data and protect them as described here.

Taking part is voluntary, and you can skip any question.

Why, and on what basis

We use the answers to understand how conditions for winter cycling can be made better and safer, and to report on what we find. Results are only published or shared in aggregated form, with a minimum group size, so that no individual can be singled out.

The legal basis is our legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR) in understanding how to make winter cycling better and safer. We have weighed this interest against your rights and concluded that it does not override them, because we collect no direct identifiers, report only aggregated results and apply the safeguards below. You have the right to object at any time (see Your rights).

Who sees your answers

PlingPling is made by Travalytics together with Trivector Mobility. We share the individual answers with Trivector Mobility only so they can help us analyse the survey. They may not use them for anything else.

We may also use subcontractors to help with the analysis. They act on our behalf under a data processing agreement and may not use the answers for any other purpose.

We do not sell your answers or use them for marketing.

How long we keep it

We keep the individual answers for at most 12 months after the survey closes, for analysis and quality checks.

After that we generalise them, for example by grouping small municipalities into larger areas, merging age ranges, and removing or generalising free-text answers. After generalisation the answers can no longer reasonably be linked to a person (Recital 26 GDPR). Generalised data is kept for as long as it is needed for comparisons over time. Aggregated results in published reports are kept indefinitely, as they contain no individual answers.

We review stored data at least once a year.

Storage and security

The survey is hosted by an external provider that acts as our data processor under a data processing agreement. Data is stored on servers in the European Union, on Amazon Web Services (AWS) infrastructure in EU regions. It is encrypted at rest (AES-256) and in transit (TLS 1.2), with access controls, logging and regular security testing.

There is no routine access to survey data from outside the EU. If a transfer outside the EU/EEA ever becomes necessary, we make sure it is protected as required by Chapter V GDPR.

Cookies and local storage

We use no tracking cookies and no third-party analytics. Your browser's local or session storage may be used to keep your progress during the survey, but not to identify you.

Your rights

You have the right to access, correct and delete your data, to restrict how we process it, to data portability, and to object (Article 21 GDPR).

The simplest way to object is not to submit the survey: nothing is saved until you complete it.

Because we cannot identify individuals once answers are submitted, these rights are limited in practice (Article 11 GDPR). If you can give us information that lets us find your answers, we will make reasonable efforts to help. Email plingpling@travalytics.io.

You can also complain to the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection, IMY.

Other information

The survey is aimed at people aged 16 or older. When we change this notice, we update the date at the top of this page.
